TEAM HISTORY |
- Matt Corridori is challenged to a flag football game by co-worker J.J. Gilbert's All-Stars from Methuen. Millbury wins easily on a neutral Maynard High School football field in front of a standing room only crowd of Methuen fans. Overridden with shame, J.J. disappears like a shadow in the dark never to be heard from again.
- Millbury's inaugural season in the Worcester Parks League. The team leaders decide to take many small sponsors instead of one large one, therefore eliminating dependency on any one sponsor and allowing the team to make the moves they see fit to make the team competitive in the future. They go 1-9-1 but ironically, the only team they beat is Leitrum's Pub. Leitrum's QB had agreed to play for the expansion Millbury Monsoon before the season started and later decided he would play for Leitrum's without telling Millbury. He was benched by Leitrum's after 2 games and never played in the league again
- Millbury improves to 2-8 but 3 of their losses are handed to them with under 1 minute to play in the games. The future looks promising as the team seems to be headed on the right track.
- TRAIN DERAILMENT! Bad team chemistry and poor decisions leave Millbury with a 1-8-1 record. Speculation of a buyout and mergers with other teams leave Millbury's future in the league as questionable but management keeps the faith and refuses to take the easy way out.
- Millbury shows it innovation by becoming the first and only team in the league with it's own website. Millbury also becomes the first and only team to keep player and team statistics. With these innovations and an excellent recruiting year Millbury goes undefeated in the Community League winning its first Superbowl. Opposing players are overheard all year yelling at each other "I can't believe we're losing to Millbury!" We say "BELIEVE IT!"
- Millbury once again goes undefeated in the Community League and wins it's 2nd straight Superbowl. Millbury also defeats the WPD of the City League for the first time in its history ending a 7 game 3 year losing streak.
- Millbury wins its 3rd straight Community League Title despite losing their starting quarterback and the leagues best WR to retirement after the 2000 season.
- Despite a 6-4 regular season record, Millbury wins its 4th straight Community League Title. They also pick up their first win ever against Mac's Place, one of the most dominant teams in the league the past 15 years. Millbury plays Worcester Express on a snow covered Lake Avenue field for the CMFFA Championship. Holding a slim 7-6 lead the Monsoon give up a questionable game winning touchdown with 18 seconds to go. This game ends Millbury's 7 years in the Community League as they are bumped up into the more competetive City League for the 2003 season.
– After 4 consecutive Community league titles, the Monsoon are bumped up to the cut throat City league. The Monsoon show they are worthy of the promotion by winning a team record 11 games. In a rematch of last years CMFFA championship, the Monsoon this time meet in the City league championship with Fisher Construction to try and dethrone the supposedly invincible defending champs. Millbury wins a close hard fought game to take the trophy. It is Millbury’s 5th straight league championship.
– Trying to prove that the previous years Superbowl title wasn't a fluke, Millbury sets multiple team and individual records. And despite multiple injuries to key players, Millbury manages to repeat as City League Superbowl champions by once again defeating Fisher Construction. It is Millbury's 6th League Superbowl title in a row.
– The Monsoon started the season with six straight wins but lost their starting QB because of a leg injury. Playing with their 2nd and 3rd string QB's Millbury drops 4 straight close games to end the regular season. They finish 6-4 and back into the playoffs as the 5 seed out of the 6 who qualified. Their starting QB comes back for the playoffs and leads the team to 3 straight wins and their 7th straight League Superbowl title. The wins include victories over undefeated #1 seed Meola's and the #2 seed Molinari's. The month of November is also a milestone for the Monsoon as the team website gets over 100,000 hits for the month. The first and only time that has happened.
– The Monsoon win their last of 8 straight championships. For the first time, the winner of the Central Mass League plays the winner of the New England Flag Football Association. The game is played at Foley stadium where the Monsoon fall 24-14. It is the first time a team from the Central Mass League plays at Foley stadium since 1996. It is also the very last football game at any level played on grass at Foley Stadium. Artificial turf is added for the 2007 season.
