In
a rematch of last years quarter-finals that went into overtime, the
defending champs were trying to make it to their 3rd straight Superbowl
and the up and coming Wreckin Crew was trying to get to their
1st. JDS opened the scoring when the Wreckin Crew threw what
seemed to be a safe wide receiver screen from inside their own
10. The ball was taken from the receiver and run in to give
JDS a quick 6-0 lead. The Wreckin Crew would score the next
13 points and JDS would answer with a score of their own to
tie. Both teams would add another to be deadlocked at 20 with
under 2 minutes to go. JDS drove down the field and with 20
seconds left attempted a 22 yard field goal for the win. It
sailed right and the game went into overtime. Wreckin Crew
had the ball first and after 3 uneventful plays found themselves with a
4th and goal. They went for it and the pass fell incomplete
but a pass iterference call gave them a 1st and goal from the 1 yard
line. They again were unable to score with the first 3 plays
but managed a touchdown on 4th down to go up by 7. JDS gained
15 yards on their first 3 plays and on 4th and goal from the 5, JDS QB
Prentice Jones rolled to his left and picked up a good block to score
the touchdown. The defending champs decided to go for the 2
point conversion. Jones rolled to his left again and threw a
pass to the back of the end zone where Todd Supernaut went up in
traffic and pulled down the game winner. |
