Victory a Relief for Monsoon
Millbury going for it's 5th straight win needed a ferocious 2nd half onslaught from it's defense to overcome a two touchdown deficit against Emerald Isle. Without an offensive first down and down 13-0 in the second half the Millbury defense sent the house to try and force an errant turnover and Monsoon cornerback Chris Boullette benefited from that pressure by intercepting a pass and running it back 30 yards for Millbury's first score. The Millbury defense was right back on the field after the kickoff and forced a three and out. Millbury's struggling offense managed a couple first downs before stalling at the 15 yard line. Larry Goodwin kicked a 30 yard field goal to pull the Monsoon within 4 points. With under 5 minutes to play and Millbury still down by 4, Millbury QB Josh Ducharme led his team down the field against what had been an impenetrable Emerald Isle defense. Ducharme connected with DJ Trudell on a 10 yard touchdown pass to give Millbury its first lead of the game. Just when the Monsoon thought they could relax, Emerald Isle showed they weren't going to roll over. With no timeouts left, the Isle worked their way down the field reaching the Millbury 15 yard line. With only seconds remaining, a game tying field goal sailed wide right. And just like that, the pebble of victory had been snatched from Emerald Isle's hand. Eventually Charlie Brown will kick that football and Emerald Isle will beat the Monsoon, but this was not the year for either of them.
Note: Rumors that Emerald Isle coach Bryan Hewitt has been committed to the old Worcester Asylum for the Insane and is in a straight jacket yelling "...Corridori....CORRIDORI..." are unsubstantiated.
