Millbury Wins in Monsoon
For the 5th week in a row, Millbury has given up a touchdown on its first defensive series. In a driving rain storm, JDS drove down the field and took an early six to nothing lead.Millbury would respond on their following possession going 50 yards on 5 plays. The big play was a 39 yard completion from QB Josh Ducharme to receiver Tim Cluett. This set up a 1 yard touchdown pass from Ducharme to David Trudell. Millbury would add another score before halftime, going 76 yards on 10 plays ending with another 1 yard Trudell touchdown reception. The drive was aided by 4 JDS penalty's on the drive. Millbury held an eight point lead until just under 5 minutes to go in the game when JDS QB Prentice Jones hit Nick Brown with a 5 yard pass. The 2 point conversion was good to tie the game. In overtime, JDS scored a quick touchdown but missed the 2 point conversion. Millbury managed to gain 10 yards on their possession to set up a key 4th and goal from the 10. Ducharme was pursued out of the pocket to his left when he turned to throw a desperation pass into the endzone. Before he could release the ball he was hit, forcing him to the ground and drawing a roughing the passer penalty. This gave Millbury a 1st and goal from the 8 yard line. Ducharme ran for a 3 yard gain on 1st down and ran for a 4 yard gain on 2nd down. On 3rd and goal from the 1, Ducharme tried a QB sneak and the bigger JDS line held tough setting up a 4th and goal from the 1 to decide the game. Ducharme once again found Trudell on an out pattern to tie the game. The extra point was blocked by JDS but the ball had enough momentum to get over the uprights and Millbury came away with a close victory.
